Governor Jim Justice’s $2.8 billion Roads to Prosperity freeway maintenance and construction program has created the immediate need for thousands of transportation workers, engineers, equipment operators, bridge inspectors, administrators and other people who would be needed to realize the governor’s vision.

Knowing that these workers would be needed—and needed quickly—WVDOT asked the West Virginia Legislature to pass legislation allowing WVDOT to develop its own posting, interviewing, and hiring procedures. The new hiring procedures have revolutionized the department’s ability to recruit candidates quickly and efficiently.
