There’s a Global Shortage of Web3 Programmers, But Metacrafters Has a Plan to Fix It

According to a new report from McKinsey & Co, the metaverse has the potential to generate up to $5 trillion in value by 2030, but there’s still a big shortfall: Web3 companies are colliding everywhere: Web3 developers skilled are few and far between. In fact, Web3 developers represent only one percent of all developers worldwide – however, each of these Web3 developers has already generated $12 million in value.

Metacrafters.iothe first project launched by Evidence of learning, plans to increase this percentage exponentially by upgrading the skills of one million new Web3 developers in one year. The new project will achieve this goal with the support of four of the biggest blockchain houses. solana, avalanche, To flowand Polygon Foundations are funding a $4.5 million multi-channel capital grant to Metcrafters.

This grant, a rarity in the Web3 world to begin with, is not a typical capital investment, but rather a stepping stone to training Web3 developers to create a pipeline of new talent for emerging Web3 companies.

Co-founder and CEO of Proof of Learn and Metacrafters Sheila Lirio Marcelo is also the founder and former CEO of, a web2 platform that has revolutionized and equalized the care industry by connecting skilled home care workers with people seeking professional home care. Proof of Learn built Metacrafters with the same key values as to create accessibility and equity in an underfunded industry by creating a platform for 32 developers around the world to access an education of high quality to unlock life-changing job opportunities.

I had the opportunity to interview Sheila Marcelo after the grant announcement broke things for me. “There is an extreme shortage of blockchain and crypto developers in Web3,said Marcelo. “There are 80,000 blockchain applications worldwide, but only around 250,000 developers under Web3 contract, creating a critical shortage and increasing demand for developers and engineers in the Web3 world. In reality, blockchain alone remains the most in-demand job skill.”

Metacrafters is a multi-chain learning and earning game that teaches users how to write smart contracts and chain-build. The course, which can be completed in three to six months, is structured into three segments. Students of Metacrafters – or “Crafters” – enroll in basic courses for free and use cryptocurrency to take more advanced courses. At the end of the course, they get their tuition and additional rewards back. The $4.5 million grant will fund the LNE (learn and earn) business model.

“This is designed for us to pay developers to learn,” Marcelo said. “We are educating the supply, especially in underserved areas of the world.”

Metacrafters at Proof of Learn will not only educate developers in this new field – we will also provide potential employers with guaranteed on-chain credentials for our job-ready students. Companies and projects will be able to go to Metacrafters to access and verify student skills in real time, virtually instantly finding the exact talent they are looking for,” says Marcelo.

Course completion will also be rewarded with an NFT proof of learning issued as a permanent public title on the blockchain, as well as an NFT treasure that can be used in the game world or sold to another player in the market. .

Raj Gokal, co-founder of Solanasaid: “The internet has empowered anyone, anywhere to build a business that can change the world. Blockchain developers are in high demand, and projects like Metacrafters will not only teach developers to master the skills they have need to develop the blockchain, but will also advance the overall growth and development of the Web3 ecosystem.

“We are extremely proud to support Proof of Learn in their efforts to create a more robust and innovative Web3 environment, said Ryan Wyatt, CEO of Polygon Studios. “Merging gameplay and education into a ‘learn and earn’ framework promises to bridge the vast blockchain talent gap and inspire a new generation of native Web3 developers.”

John Wu, president of Ava Labs, noted that Web3 is already attracting talented and ambitious programmers, but the industry needs more people, faster, to reach its growth potential.

“We have seen an incredible influx of talent entering Web3 over the past two years, as experts leave the familiar convenience of Web2 to embark on new projects with no known horizon. This is definitely a win for the Web3 community, but we can’t stop there,” said Wu. “We need to scale impact contributors even faster to keep pace with mainstream demand, and Proof of Learn is positioned to break through by enabling the next generation to move from inception to builders.”

“The potential of blockchain technology can only be fully realized if it is widely accessible, which is why supporting and empowering developers today and tomorrow is so important.” said Roham Gharegozlou, founder of Dapper Labs. “We are proud to support Proof of Learn and share their vision that when high quality education is accessible and equitable, it has the potential to be a force multiplier for our entire industry.”
