The most popular web framework for developers in 2021 is Svelte: report

Developers building apps in 2021 have a wide variety of technologies to choose from, from old to new.

According to the stack overflow Developer survey 2021, he’s actually a newcomer – Slender – which developers consider the most popular web framework. Created in 2016, the Svelte web framework has surpassed React.js, Django and Vue.js, among others, as the most popular framework.

Khalid El Khatib, senior vice president of marketing communications at Stack Overflow, called Svelte’s ranking one of the biggest surprises in this year’s survey.

“[Svelte’s] a rapid rise to the top is probably due to the fact that it is easy to learn, open source, and has a more efficient compiler framework than its peers, ”said El Khatib ITPro today.

Rust clings to its crown

While Svelte has become for the first time the most popular web framework, for the sixth consecutive year open-source Rust programming language holds the crown as the most popular programming language.

Rust has had a particularly turbulent year 2021 so far, exiting Mozilla and obtaining its own governance under the new Rust background.

While the most popular language or technology is an interesting survey question to ask, another question is the most sought after in terms of the skill a developer wishes to acquire or learn. Although Rust is the most popular programming language, it is not the most sought after. This title goes to Python – for the fifth consecutive year, according to El Khatib.

“While not as new as Rust, Python is easy to learn and applicable to all industries,” he said. “It is one of the most widely implemented languages, and the programs tend to be clear and readable.”

For those looking for the highest paying tech, 2021 also marked a change. The open-source language Perl, which was the highest-paid language in 2020, fell to fifth place in 2021, with a median developer salary of $ 80,000. At the top of the list of the most profitable programming languages is Clojuré to $ 95,000.

Although Svelte is the most popular web framework, it is not the most profitable. Topping the list of top-paying web frameworks in 2021 is Ruby on Rails at $ 77,556, with Svelte # 2 with a median developer salary of $ 62,520.

Full-time developer job not recovering after COVID

One of the report’s other surprising findings was a decrease in the number of full-time professional developers employed in 2021 compared to 2020.

According to the report, 81% of professional developers in 2021 are employed full time, down from 83% in the 2020 report. This is because more and more developers are turning to freelance or contract work. The report found that 11.2% of those polled said they were independent contractors, freelancers or self-employed, up from 9.5% in 2020.

El Khatib observed that changes in employment could be influenced by industries affected by COVID-19, although the survey indicated that people are looking for jobs with less urgency in 2021 and are more open to self-employment. and to the board.
